Ben Olin is the author of Underground Networks: Artists’ Television in New York City published by the University of California Press (2026).
His writing has appeared in Art Journal; Framework; Millennium Film Journal; Jacket 2; Downtown Film and TV Culture, 1975-2001 Intellect/University of Chicago Press; and in the New Museum Catalog XFR Transfer Station.
As a research fellow at Sarai-Centre for the Study of Developing Societies he co-authored the first in an ongoing series of publications on open-source digital culture in South Asia.
Olin has served as an Assistant Professor at Hong Kong Shue Yan University; Beijing Normal-Hong Kong Baptist University; and Beijing Institute of Technology. He previously taught at New York University as an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Cinema Studies, and as a Postdoctoral Fellow in the College of Arts & Science.
He holds a PhD in Cinema Studies from New York University; an MA in Aural and Visual Cultures from Goldsmiths, University of London; an MA in Poetic Practice from Royal Holloway, University of London; and a BA in American Studies (Literature) from the University of Sussex.
